Many people aspire to live in a converted barn. However the opportunities to convert or renovate an existing barn are limited. There are only so many of them. Furthermore the cost of renovation or restoration can be considerably more expensive than building from new. That is why a barn style house is becoming an increasingly popular option.
These structures combine a mixture of the contemporary and the vernacular. The essential difference between the above style is that the beams are not generally exposed externally. Usually based on a heavy oak frame, although it could be Douglas fir, they invariably have a more open feel to the structure. Also they are eminently suited to large glazed areas.
External finishes can be a combination of infill panel insulation, external cladding and large scale glazing. Fully vaulted roofs are a feature of this design echoing the spacious feel of the original barn. A major attraction of this style is the flexibility it allows in design and usage, which can be fully exploited either through our own bespoke in-house design team or by working with your own nominated architect.
