On Tour with a Miniature Oak Frame

In Oakwrights busy Hereford office, I am usually kept busy, dealing with marketing and customer enquiries. However, today I had a complete break from the norm.

I left the office and headed north, to Leominster, to spend some time with the pupils at Westfield School. On arrival, class teacher, Judy gave me a tour of the school. It’s a small school for pupils with severe learning difficulties, with 4 classrooms and a total of 40 pupils, it has a very fun and friendly atmosphere.

Today, Oakwrights had arranged for Charlie Lupton of “Make Your Own History” to carry out a workshop with the kids at Westfield School. Charlie has a miniature Tudor House (manufactured by Oakwrights) and visits schools across the country, teaching children about the history of house building (in a very fun way) and the pupils can become Tudor craftsmen for the day.

I was very keen to see Charlie in action, as I had heard such positive feedback about his workshops. He did not disappoint.

The whole school had gathered in the hall, on what is the last day of the school term. This terms topic has been “Houses and Homes” so this was a lovely conclusion to a full terms work.

Charlie managed to involve every single pupil in the activities, whose age range from 4 to 19 years. He got the smaller ones, building the foundations and the older (taller) pupils, fixing the roof. All the kids loved hammering in the pegs, with their medieval hammers.

It was a fantastic day, thanks to Charlie and the amazing pupils and staff  at Westfield School; I have never seen so many smiley faces.
