When Andrew & Mary Wade decided to demolish their existing farmhouse they looked about the Kent landscape for inspiration, finding it in the famous Bayleaf House at the Weald & Downland Museum. Compiling a wish list they chose OAKWRIGHTS to undertake design to their specifications. We also undertook the Building Regulation drawings. The only hitch with the planners was arguing for the traditional 50 degree pitch roof to which the planners eventually acceded

Exuding a timeless appeal that encapsulates the essence of traditional English architecture, this stunning example of vernacular design features the characteristic double jetties, flying wall plate, dragon beam floors, crown post roof with carved posts, and shaped entrance door head. Although historical in conception, every concession is made to the needs and comforts of modern living including intelligent lighting surround sound, central vacuuming, and a heat exchange system with filtered air supply. The addition of a rear offshoot allows garaging and further living space above.
