Having escaped the ravages of the industrial revolution, Herefordshire remains a largely rural county. With the mighty oak having been described as the ‘weed of Herefordshire’ it is not surprising that the craft of the housewright still flourishes in these parts. Oakwrights are located on the outskirts of the historic market city of Hereford where we are surrounded by hamlets, villages and towns rich in the tradition of oak frame buildings.
Our modern workshop and offices are combined on the same site. Prospective clients are encouraged to arrange a visit to our premises to inspect for themselves the services and craftsmanship we have to offer. Here you can meet the staff, discuss your needs and inspect the way we work. A store of additional house designs may give you the inspiration you are looking for. Most find it a fascinating insight into the working of the modern day housewright.
Here at Oakwrights we are proud of our success and growth. If you have a plot and/or planning permission, please feel free to come, all we ask is that you telephone and let us know when you are likely to come so we can make sure someone is here to spend time with you.
A typical visit would include a discussion over your plans, viewing plans of houses we have already built and seeing photographs of the stages of the build. A tour of the office, meeting the design team and viewing the 3D's of houses we are working on, as well as meeting one of our project managers. An in-depth discussion with one of our sales team will emphasise the dos and don'ts and pass on some of our experience to ease your own process.
Finally, we will finish with a tour of the workshop and the K2 Hundegger machine to see how intricate the process can be even when working with large pieces of oak. During this stage you will see the beams in their raw state and how we turn this multitude of timber into a self-supporting, structurally sound frame held together only with oak pegs.
It is because we are proud of, and passionate about, the work that we do that we would love to welcome you and show you around.
