oakwrights in the community

Community and charity events our team have contributed to throughout our 19 years.

Hellens Garden Festival

The Hellens Garden Festival is a community interest company based at Hellens manor in Much Marcle, Herefordshire.

It is a venture that relies on the generosity, time and energy of a large number of volunteers, collaborators, sponsors and supporters who share our passion for what we do and the causes we support. All profits from the event are donated to local beneficiaries St Michael’s Hospice and Back to the Wild.

Lead by Alex Knowles from our Frame Design Team, we annually attend the Hellens Garden Festival. Oakwrights currently lend two crook frame marquees to the event and we sell our 'Oak Frame Homes' book and donate the proceeds to St Michaels Hospice.  We’d like to thank our team for their four day's work in order to help the event raise approximately £8-10,000 for such great causes.

In Support of St Michael's Hospice

From Friday 21 September at 5pm through to 5pm on Saturday 22 September a good few members of the Oakwrights Team spared a little time and energy to raise money for St Michael’s Hospice. 19 colleagues and former colleagues of ‘Our Man’ Marek Hallmann, took part in a 24 hour sponsored spinathon. Five ‘Incredibles’ out of this group also managed to join a breakaway Oakwrights Ladies team that took on the 10 kilometre sponsored Venus Walk that began at midnight on the Friday. We managed to raise over £1500 with hopefully more to come!

Inter-Business Quiz in support of Phoenix Bereavement

The inter-business quiz is for Herefordshire businesses. The event is only for local businesses, which enter teams of four for the competition. The entry fee from each team is donated to Phoenix Bereavement Support Services.

Our team annually take part in this quiz to help raise money for Phoenix Bereavement; we encourage other local businesses to get involved too! It’s a great evening for a great cause!

Supporting Education

Oakwrights feel very strongly about improving young people’s career opportunities and do as much as possible to improve them.

Secondary students from Fairfield High School visited Oakwrights for workshop tours and presentations from design and projects to assist with their GCSEs in Design and Technology. Tours for primary schools such as Almeley have also taken place to try and encourage pupils to think about a career in engineering. In the UK alone it is estimated that there will be a shortfall of around 20,000 engineers.

Stretton Sugwas School

Oakwrights are very pleased to sponsor the Stretton Sugwas School football team with their very professional football kits. The school’s band stand worth £35,000 was also proudly constructed by us to allow students to learn outside in the fresh air during the hot weather!

Herefordshire Homeless

Oakwrights actively take part in fundraising events such as quizzes in support of Herefordshire’s homeless. At our workshops we also have an abundance of firewood, throughout the cold weather we have been known to donate bags of firewood to those without a home.

The Hay Festival of Literature & Arts

The Hay Festival of Literature & Arts is an annual literature festival held in Hay-on-Wye, Wales. The event receives over 100,000 visitors over eleven days to listen to the world’s greatest writers, poets, philosophers, historians, storytellers, comedians and musicians.

Our team provide a box office in Hay-on-Wye leading up to the event and also provide a crook frame for the children and family zone as well as a frame by the bar!

Hereford River Carnival

The River Carnival is Herefordshire’s biggest, boldest community event and its run entirely by a bunch of dedicated, fun-loving volunteers. The day is jam packed with raft races, a plastic duck race, a street carnival a wild water swim and more.

Oakwrights attend this event annually and provide two crook frames for the information point in the centre of the grounds and for the entertainment area. This takes the projects team three days to assemble, we are very grateful for their efforts!

The Cotswold Sportive

On the eve of the Tour de France, Charlie Mills (Head of Oakwrights Country Buildings & Greenrooms) shares his diary of the company cycle team's adventures in the Cotswold Sportive.

Email from Dave Grey (Head of Sales) “Anyone need an excuse to ‘get on the bike’?”

Replies consisted of comments checking with higher authorities, before replies of excitement as one by one the relevant stamps of approval were issued and we were game on! Cotswolds 100 mile Sportive Ride, here we come!!
