'Blue Barn' at Abington Pigotts - An Oakwrights 'Lightwall' project
OAK FRAME INSULATION
“LightWall” is an economical, but high performance enclosure system purposely designed to work with oak frames. It’s components are conventional, tried and tested, and robust, but it’s details and execution are designed by Oakwrights. It consists of a high accuracy softwood studwork frame sheathed with OSB. This structure is then fully covered with high performance Kingspan insulation to minimise cold bridging and leave the studwork frame completely free for services.
Wall panels are fully assembled in our workshops, including the oak frame insulation, breather membranes and battening as appropriate. The panels can then be lifted in on site, enabling an oak frame home to be fully walled in a matter of days.
In the case of “Blue Barn” (not it’s real name, just the nickname given by the locals due to the “Oakwrights Blue” breather membrane that we use, which will eventually be covered by weatherboarding), we erected a substantial but economical oak frame in under 3 days. We then had the panels delivered and they were lifted in and finished in the following 5 days. This was all achieved by a team consisting of myself, Pete our workshop supervisor, Krystov and Stuart.
Being January, we had our fair share of rain, cold, ice etc, but we battled through to keep everything on schedule. We also had a great client who took us to the local pub, complete with roaring fire, on the last day of each week!
