The Carpenters Fellowship Frame Event 2015
'Frame' takes the form of an educational conference, where speakers of international repute lecture on many aspects of traditional and contemporary timber framing, and many other topics. Practical demonstrations, training opportunities, tool markets, the infamous axe throwing competition and above all a great social occasion complete the event, to which Oakwrights have been going to since it first started.
After weeks of planning and eagerly awaiting Frame 2015, the team arrived at the campsite in St Fagans, Cardiff along with our brand new fire pit and a huge bag of wood in tow - we are all set for the perfect campfire.
The first day was spent exploring and eagerly attending the talks and demonstrations that were put on throughout the morning and late afternoon.
After purchasing our weekend tickets the team quickly discovered the competition events – axe throwing and trebuchet! After signing up in our separate teams, we all set about practicing.
The practice certainly paid off as on competition day the girls stormed the trebuchet event securing first place, followed by Oakwrights Designer Sarah taking first place in the women’s Axe throwing event.
After posing for a winning photo, we headed off to enjoy a few of the fantastic afternoon talks. Before dinner (which was a glorious hog roast dinner!), we sat down for the upcoming projects demonstrations – all of which were very inspiring and extremely fascinating, demonstrating many wonderful and exciting projects coming up in 2016!
We finally ended on a fantastic high with an amazing Ceilidh band performance that set us off dancing long into the night!
Regardless of the stormy weather over the weekend the team had a wonderful time getting stuck in to all things carpentry and camping. This being the first frame for a few members of the team, it was agreed by all that we couldn’t wait for the next one along with the girls determined to keep hold of their current trebuchet winning title!
