What is a custom build home and is it right for your self build project?
In 2011 the UK Government introduced the term 'custom build housing' as part of a strategy to encourage the building of new homes and communities that have much more input and involvement from the customer / home owner than a typical housing development would offer. Effectively, a custom build home project is close in nature to a true 'self-build' home but with a lot of the difficult stages removed such as planning processes and land purchase. A custom build home would suit someone looking for a high quality, bespoke house but who does not want to seek out available land or a build plot and then go through the exhaustive process of attaining (or not) planning permission.
Oakwrights are fully committed to the Custom Build ideal and as such partner with land owners and developers who are sympathetic to the unique styling and aesthetic of an oak framed house. With land available and with permission in place, Oakwrights can offer the home buyer a range of styles to choose from that can be tailored to each individual or family’s needs, as long as certain parameters are held to such as plot area, build size etc., that planning permission has been based on. For more information specific to Custom Build and current availability of plots and houses visit our ever expanding custom build section here.
Oakwrights offer you, the home buyer a range of services to help create a dream home that is both traditional in concept but also efficient and sustainable for the future. From architectural design expertise and planning support, right through to finishing options and build material choices, Oakwrights are there for you throughout any given project. As well as the custom build approach we offer a complete turnkey build service where our ‘Your Home’ team will manage an entire project from start to finish, perfect for someone too busy for the day-to-day running of a self-build home. We can also offer the self-builder a range of support services that integrate with other suppliers and professionals, for example we supply and erect our market leading oak frames, ready for partner builders to complete as part of a self-build collaborative process.
Whatever approach you are considering, we can advise and guide you on the various design and build processes and would love to meet you in person to discuss, either at one of the many events we attend around the country, or by appointment at our headquarters in Hereford.
