How to Store Your Prized Classic Car in an Oak Framed Garage
Here at Oakwrights we have a bit of a passion for the Classic Land Rover and have a bit of a collection amongst the team and that is why we love to attend the Goodwood Festival of Speed & Goodwood Revival shows and now making our debut at the London Classic Car Show at the Excel.
In celebration of the London Classic Car Show, we thought we would go that extra bit further and explore the needs and wants of a classic car owner and enthusiast. As a company, we provide the structural oak frame, cladding, joinery and roof, but we always love to see how our clients finish their projects off, so we had a go on our own with the help from some friends.
A Garage with Car Lift
We are frequently asked if we could produce an oak building to incorporate a car lift, to enable the tweaking and working on projects and storage. Working with Pillertons we have been able to incorporate a lift into one of our standard single storey garages, the Highgrove.
This design also enables you to store your classic sports car above your daily vehicle. For more space above we would recommend the Little Gloucester or Gloucester garage without a floor to park larger cars on the lift.

Pillertons have various lift options depending on your lifting requirements.
You have the garage for your car, now you need the house for your tools. Dura are the specialists in kitting our garages. We first met the Dura team at Goodwood Revival 2016 and as they were highly recommended by Clive Dickson, General Manager of Aston Workshop, we knew that these were the people to take our garage kit-out to the next level.
Dura has endless options for your perfect Garage kit-out. Adam and the team recommended the Dura 600 series range cabinet with drawers and general storage in Black Grey for the perfect work bench. For the obsessive compulsive's amongst us, the Storewall for all your hanging needs will keep your workshop in perfect order.
Concrete bases are the common floor finishes but Dura recommends 7mm PVC interlocking floor tiles. "PVC tiles create a great thermal, dust and noise barrier, a much more efficient solution than traditional concrete.
PVC tiles are suitable for all garage interior functions including home gyms, play rooms and a space to park your car. Our PVC garage flooring tiles are available with raised studs or a textured finish making them anti-slip too!"
Additionally, for that Super Car finish Porcelain floor tiles are also highly recommended if using your garage space for a workshop with a show room finish.
Depending on the required aesthetic finish of your garage, we have a couple of options for the doors to your oak frame garage:
Oak or Softwood Garage Doors are our go to traditional doors, a very pretty way of locking up your garage and keeping the elements out.
Roller doors are another alternative available in various colours and finish, a brilliant way to keep your pride and joy locked up.
An Insulated Environment
We can provide 3 different levels of insulation dependent upon your needs: whether the garage will be used for mostly storage, further insulation if you are intending on working in there in the colder months, or dealing with approved habitable specifications that will require Building Regulations (if that is, you wanted your garage to double up as your Man cave and be a home away from home (disclaimer: your wife may not see you again)).
Classic cars are precious assets and protecting them is key, we work very closely with Octaga Security in providing the best security options from alarms to CCTV and more. Their experience and knowledge will provide you with the best solution to keeping your asset your asset.
