A call into the MD’s office is often faced with trepidation, however on this pleasant Tuesday afternoon it resulted in an invite to Le Manoir hosted by Country Life Magazine, big smiley face mixed with slight 'Eek' at ‘what am I going to wear’.
Wednesday morning the general manager Bill Keir and I caught a train to Oxford and had a pleasant wander in the sunshine before catching a cab to Le Manoir. The day commenced with a tour of the beautiful gardens where they grow mushrooms, 100% organic vegetables and herbs. Who knew so much effort went into classifying something as organic or that there are more than 7000 types of apple?
On return to the hotel we made our way into the newest addition of Le Manoir where we were greeted with house champagne, tantalising canapés and good conversation with the lovely people of Country Life.
Following several top ups and a sample of each delight we were led into the dining room and sat at table 3. Before commencing our meal we were surprised with a visit from Raymond Blanc, what a truly funny and passionate man, he clearly loves what he does and puts great thought into expanding both his and others knowledge of what we consume.
The food that followed was by far the most delectable I have ever eaten.
The meal was completed with a selection of petit four (there were plenty more, we had just devoured the majority before I remembered to snap a photo).
On thanking our charming hosts from Country Life Magazine we took a further wander of the English water garden which we had yet to peruse. Lovely end to a picture-perfect day.
