Hereford Runner goes Head to Head with Olympic Champion
Ellie Jude, Oakwrights Senior Estimator, is looking to give herself the biggest test that a first time marathon runner can as she looks to raise money for St Michael's Hospice. On Sunday 23 April this year, Ellie will line up against one of the strongest women's fields ever assembled for a major city marathon in London.
Ellie will be lining up against Olympic champion Jemima Sumgong who will be defending her Virgin Money London Marathon title. Sumgong defied the odds last April when she recovered from a bruising fall to beat the world's best in the British capital with a devastating finish (2hr 22min 58sec). Ellie has set her own, more modest challenge of finishing under the five hour mark.
"I like to run but I wouldn’t say I was a runner, a few miles and I am happy. However when the opportunity came up to support St Michaels Hospice I was a definite yes, a worthy cause and a new experience what’s not to like?"
"All with the added bonus of having Oakwrights behind me in raising sponsorship. Excited!"
In order to help Ellie raise the £2000 minimum to run the marathon, Oakwrights, are offering up several raffle prizes – 1st Prize: A Weekend in The Woodhouse (Two Nights – Breakfast Hamper included), 2nd Prize: Spring Hamper, 3rd Prize: Champagne / Gin.
Bill Keir, Oakwrights Operations Director, "The minimum we need to raise (for St Michael's) for Ellie to take part is £2000. PIP Printing are very kindly supporting us by supplying the raffle tickets and have printed enough for us to raise £5000 - so that is what we are aiming for. If we can raise more - all the better."
To support Ellie running the London Marathon against the world's elite runner - Raffle Tickets are available to purchase in person at the Oakwrights Headquarters or over the phone at a cost £5.
