DARREN BLACKWELL - OAKWRIGHTS DESIGNER

SPECIALISING IN THE FIELD OF STRUCTURAL GREEN OAK FRAMING, DARREN OFFERS SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE IN THIS AREA THAT VERY FEW OTHERS HAVE ATTAINED.

Darren Blackwell first experienced the world of design as a child, sitting at his father's desk, watching in awe as he produced conceptual thumbnail sketches of a piece of exquisite jewellery a client had commissioned for design and creation.

Over the years Darren became more and more intrigued in the ways in which these 'snippets' became a true reflection of what was actually created, as if they were drawn as a still life of the finished article. Darren's father took his creative talent to the pinnacle of his profession, becoming not only The Queen's personal jeweller, but both the Royal and Crown jeweller. Darren has followed suit, using his father's principles of design and joining the cream of the oak frame architectural crop, Oakwrights Architectural Design Team.

With 'balance' (proportion and symmetry) and attention to detail as the backbone of his practice, Darren promises to embrace your lifestyle requirements and deliver a scheme of creativity, value and environmental sustainability that will support the modern style of living.

Following these fundamental principles, Darren has been designing exclusive homes for over twenty years. Joining the Oakwrights Architectural Design Team in 2003 he began specialising in the field of structural green oak framing, offering you skills and experience in this area that very few others have attained.

Quite often clients approach Oakwrights Architectural Designers with a range of influences that they would like incorporated into the design of their home. Darren worked very closely with this client to ensure that they had all the elements in their home's design that they desired; influences here come from equestrian properties, Kentish barns and Swedish homes.

Downstairs the house is completely open plan, with the exception of a cloakroom and boot room. The L shaped single storey extension has the kitchen, a second sitting-room and dining room areas, all with large expanses of glazing, taking in the glorious countryside views.

'PROPORTION AND SYMMETRY ARE KEY ELEMENTS IN OUR APPROACH TO CREATING HOMES WHICH REFLECT MODERN LIVING.'

This particular project was inspired by the client's four year stay in the USA. The couple were looking to re-create the experience of space and light that they had become accustomed to in their home on Long Island Sound, Connecticut. Darren went to work with the aim of designing a modern open plan home that would be predominantly glass fronted.

The resulting design was formulated to maximise the relatively narrow plot, with a sitting room, study and separate utility room on the ground floor. A spacious kitchen opens directly into a dining area with the projecting single-storey sunroom beyond.
