LEE WILSON - ARCHITECTURAL & BUILDING REGULATIONS TECHNICIAN

LEE PLAYS A KEY ROLE WITH IN THE OAKWRIGHTS ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN TEAM AND IS AN ASSOCIATE MEMBER OF THE CHARTERED INSTITUTE OF ARCHITECTURAL TECHNOLOGISTS

Lee Wilson has been with Oakwrights since the Autumn of 2006, when he was initially employed to produce Building Regulation Packages. One of Lee’s first projects was working on the company’s pioneering ‘Try Before Your Buy’ Show Home: The Woodhouse in Herefordshire. This assignment so early on, served as a great educational learning curve in mastering the nuances of oak framing. Lee’s initial task on the project was simply to design a working staircase for the property. His abilities soon proved far greater than this and he was set the much larger responsibility of developing a full set of Building Regulation drawings, not only for The Woodhouse, but for the whole Woodhouse Range. So successful were these initial outings that they served as the basis for Lee taking over Oakwrights Building Regulation packages full time.

Lee has played a key role in the development of what the company has to offer the self-builder, from an Architectural standpoint. From being heavily involved in the standardising of detailing systems to his pivotal role within the recently formed in-house Architectural Design Team, Lee has gained invaluable experience in the craft of oak framing and the relation between it and modern building practices. His ever developing knowledge and experience of oak frame construction and as part of his evolving role at Oakwrights, Lee has recently become an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists. All these experiences put Lee in the unique position of being able to follow and control the process of the oak from conception to construction, through planning and building regulation approval, to post completion.

Lee worked on the ‘Oak House’ project to produce a full set of Building Regulation drawings, working in conjunction with the frame and encapsulation designers. The main challenge was integrating the building into a very small corner plot, incorporating emergency access and fire prevention methods into the design. This project has proven to be a very popular Open Day visit for prospective self-builders and is an excellent example of modern, contemporary design complementing traditional oak-framing.
