An oak framed garage for classic cars in Herefordshire
Classic car enthusiasts Tom and Anne envisioned peering out of their windows to see their two pride and joys tucked up in an adjoining garage on their driveway, and so they began their garage design journey with our teams

In fact, “the housing of our classic cars took priority over our existing garaging,” adds Tom.
Living locally to us, Tom and Anne decided an oak frame garage would create a safe and sturdy sanctuary for their classic cars while ensuring its character would remain in keeping with their Herefordshire home and surroundings.

The design of their two-bay garage is based on ‘The Kenchester’ from our single storey oak frame garage collection. Drawn to its versatility and traditional look and feel, Tom and Anne knew it would provide ample space for their classic cars, given that The Kenchester can accommodate two 4X4 vehicles.
“The Kenchester garage is a traditional concept which will complement any home while adding aesthetic beauty,” explains Izzy Edey, Design and Estimating Manager here at Oakwrights. “The cat slide roof ensures the ridge height is kept low (under 4m to the ridge) while retaining adequate depth, meaning most cars can be parked within it.”
It’s extremely important to us that all our clients’ oak framed buildings are crafted around their lifestyles and meet their specific needs. This is why we offer an entirely tailored service, so like Tom and Anne, you too can bring your dream garage to life.
Admiring Tom and Anne’s garage from the ground upwards, you’ll notice how it sits on a stone plinth – a purposeful design decision as it coordinates with their home’s architectural style. They then chose to encase the three sides with painted black horizontal larch cladding to blend their timber garage in with neighbouring period outbuildings and mirror the colour of its slate roof, which, on the rear elevation, they’ve cleverly attached solar panels to for a discreet, sustainable solution.
Inside, Tom and Anne installed rear shelving for convenient tyre storage, brilliantly demonstrating how to make great use of underutilised space.
“We love the way our oak frame garage has aged, and its degree of craftsmanship. My only regret was not having three bays!”
