About the role
At Oakwrights, our Construction Estimators play a vital role in shaping high-quality timber buildings across a broad range of construction methods. Working at the heart of our estimating team, the role supports projects spanning oak framing, structural timber frames, and modern methods of construction, including prefabrication and low-energy buildings.
Estimators collaborate closely with our in-house Architectural Design team, Frame Designers, project managers, and clients to analyse drawings, assess materials and labour requirements, and produce accurate, detailed cost proposals. Using a combination of technical insight, commercial awareness and modern digital tools, they ensure each project is carefully costed, clearly presented and aligned with client expectations.
Beyond technical estimating, the role contributes directly to Oakwrights’ long-term growth by supporting strong client relationships, maintaining accurate project data, and representing the company as a knowledgeable, approachable, and solutions-focused timber construction specialist. With exposure to eco-building, off-site construction, and low-energy design principles, this position reflects Oakwrights’ commitment to innovation across the evolving timber frame market.
Key Responsibilities
- Working with our Architectural Design team and/or clients own planning or architectural drawings to produce to produce full material and labour ‘take offs’ by means of pre populated spreadsheets and written quotations using Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Collaborate with project managers and Frame Designers to gather necessary information for accurate estimating
- Work to and achieve monthly targets whilst retaining good communication skills and a friendly manner
- You will be expected to keep the CRM system up to date with all images and quotations
- You will be required to attend the occasional meetings with clients as a representative of the Estimating department
Key Skills
- Experience of various construction methods and technical knowledge, preferred, but not required
- High experience and understanding of Microsoft Office required.
- Good communication skills and friendly manner when dealing with clients or staff.
- Positive approach and positive facility for minimising problems.
- Responsibility for own work, self-motivation, flexibility and enthusiasm, ability to take initiative.
- To anticipate and counter problems before they arise. Deal with incidental problems efficiently with the minimum disruption to the work programme.
The ability to assist the team to attain the departmental targets with regard, all in accordance with the Company Year Plan. - To have experience of, or a keen interest of Timber construction including Oak Frame, in eco-building, modern methods of construction, pre-fabrication and off-site construction, Passivhaus / low energy building.
- To be very comfortable and adept with using modern software (online CRM tools)
