The contemporary home

Oak frame houses, in many cases are associated with solely traditional designs however when considering your own oak frame design don’t let this put you off. More and more contemporary style home designs are making use of heavy timbers in imaginative and innovative ways due to their structural and aesthetic qualities.

An oak frame itself is geometric in proportion and presence, and as such is highly successful when incorporated into a contemporary style home. Your oak frame design will be based on grids and intersecting planes, enabling your architectural designer to optimise the spaces within your home, to create exciting and refreshing room plan layouts.

Typical Features

Like with any oak frame house design, it is bespoke to you and your requirements. However from our experience there are some features that can be associated with a contemporary style home. These include open plan living, providing a greater potential for views through your home with little or no corridors, double height spaces, mezzanine decks, galleries and vaulted ceilings.

Alongside this we find a lot of our clients opt for a stripped back oak frame leaving its natural beauty on display. Externally the oak frame in many cases is encapsulated and clad in modern materials such as crisp render, cedar boarding, zinc/aluminium profile sheeting and glass.

Passivhaus

As a population we are becoming more aware of sustainability so it is not uncommon for our clients to want a more energy efficient home. We are regularly asked to complete homes to higher levels of insulation so when considering your oak frame build please talk to us about our current Passivhaus projects and encapsulation panel system, WrightWall Natural.
